January is upon us and it is time to look at your pathway for the next year. It seems that you have just settled into Grade 8 and we are already wanting you to decide what your next steps will be. Though it may seem challenging right now , in fact it can be a very smooth transition. We start the option sheet process early with students in order to be able to answer any questions and alleviate any anxiety.
This blog is one way we try to subside any concerns, or even fears about highschool. Highschool can be a very exciting and fun time for everyone involved , especially you. It is a time of new possiblities that are there seeking you out.
Welcome, we will see you here soon.
Please send in any questions or concerns about starting highschool.
P.S. I will be visiting your school again on January 22nd to collect your option sheet.

what is the dss building in town for?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great question.
ReplyDeleteThe building located at the corner of Chestnut and Broad Street is the Grand Erie Turning Point building . Turning Point is a specialized satellite program of Dunnville Secondary School. Students that use this program complete various studies and co-operative education programs to finish off their highschool diploma. There is a full time teacher and education assistant on-site.
will there be a football team for when us, the grade 8's are in grade 9?
ReplyDeleteThere are currently no plans to have an established football team for the 2010-2011 school years. A few years back the teachers had tried to establish a football team with all the resources lined up but unfortunately student desire for the sport dwindled. In the future, if enough students want a football team or any other type of sporting activities, the school can again look at establishing these programs. Keep in mind though that many programs have been initiated by the students and teachers of DSS with much success. Over the years I have seen such teams as rugby, ultimate frisbee, swim team, tennis, golf, baseball and so many more sports. For a full list of all the current teams and clubs go to www.panthers.ca and click on clubs and teams. Socially conscience groups have come to the forefront over the years such as DSS R.O.C.K.S (Random Acts of Caring & Kindness) and the TEAM team (fundraising for charitable donations). There are so many activities and groups that you can find your place in. Get involved and make your first year at DSS an enjoyable one.
